My name is Louisa and I have been playing the piano for over 35 years! I grew up in Blacksburg, VA and spent over 11 years teaching piano in Wisconsin. I am a certified piano teacher (NTCM) from the Music Teachers National Association and I taught piano lessons at the International School in Munich, Germany. I hold a Masters degree in music education from Boston University and I am also certified to teach Musikgarten (Early childhood music) to children ages 2-4 years.
I am a strong believer that everyone should be able to have a life of music and all piano lessons should be fun and creative. In my lessons, we listen to all types of music and learn to play different styles of music. We read music, play games, and have a lot of fun!
I offer both group and individual lessons. Group lesson are a great way to start learning how to play piano! Many kids learn better when they are with their peers while some prefer individual time with a teacher: I teach both ways!
Over the years, I have taught students from all backgrounds and ages. Many of my students have won local awards, have played in local competitions, and go on to study piano in college or run their own music studio!
All students must be vaccinated for Covid-19. Masks are optional. I will follow the CDC guidelines for mask wearing. My studio has excellent air flow and space that allows for social distancing.
My grandmother, Claire Coci (1912-1978) was a renowned organist and trailblazer. She performed organ concerts all over the world and is recognized for her achievement in organ. She was a pioneer for women in musical performance as at the time it was a male dominated field. (Personal family photo of Louisa LaBerge)
My grandfather, Bernard R. LaBerge (1891-1951) was a celebrated music manager (impresario). He arranged concerts and tours for organists and musicians all over the world from the 1920s until his death in 1951. Here he stands with Maurice Ravel in the late 1920s during Ravel's first tour in the USA .(Personal family photo of Louisa LaBerge)
My father, Bernard LaBerge and his twin brother, Phillip LaBerge grew up listening to their mother's organ performances in Oberlin, Ohio and later in New York City. My father played the oboe and banjo for fun and my uncle studied the trumpet in college and played a beautiful harpsichord. (Un-dated family photo c/o Marie-Claire LaBerge)
